Wang Shunyu: When I Left Home for 333 Days

A.m. space proudly presents the very first solo exhibition of Wang Shunyu, “When I Left Home for 333 Days”, from 27th August to 9th October 2021.

It is certainly an incredible milestone of Wang. All the works in the exhibition witnessed his growth along the way. From his initial exploration in colors of traditional Chinese painting, to the traditional literate paintings of Taihu stone works. With the immersion of time, they all become the shinning shells on the beach, original and precious at the same time. Artist herself is the axis of the show. Viewers can travel along in his perspective and emotions.

The inspiration of this show began with Wang’s one bold decision made in 2020—to start a journey in Beijing, studying for a master's degree in fine arts. Due to the pandemic, he could not come back during the semester break. This has led him to return to his hometown, Jiaxing(嘉興), which he had not been there for almost 10 years. In these 9 months, he has stayed with his grandmother, and most of his works were derived from here. The exhibition reveals how the artist observes his living environment and neighborhood, sharing those little but inimitable stories behind Jiaxing.
