Stephen Thorpe: The Last Word Always Belongs to the Mountain at Galerie Ora Ora
What a beautiful juxtaposition of eerie landscapes and tapestry-like ornamental “frames”(if the former made me think of the sci-fi and fantasy novels covers, the latter reminded me of my childhood favorite illustrator, Ivan Bilibin).
Mountains are the home of gods and deities, places where myths and rivers are born. They serve as a subject of pilgrimage or mountaineering, awesome in the old sense of the word, and plainly deadly. So condensed with the history and symbolism, they can bear that weight on their shoulders only because they are well… mountains. And to actually leave the last word to them, let’s quote Vysotsky: “Better than mountains may only be the mountains yet to be climbed.”
