Though Chushu—the End of Heat—has passed, summer has yet to loosen its hold. In Hong Kong, a city built on speed and humidity, the season still simmers in every street and alley. In response, I.F. Gallery Hong Kong has extended its summer programming from our Tokyo and Singapore branches, curating a selection of works from the permanent collection centered on coolness, stillness, and repose. The exhibition seeks to create a quiet refuge: a space in which visitors may pause, breathe, and find relief from the intensity of late summer.

Bringing together nine contemporary Asian artists, the exhibition includes Asuka Irie’s pale, wintry Winter Chrysanthemums in Snow; Seiji Sonoke’s softly glowing Moonlight series; and the poised female figures of Ayana Otake, Yuhi Nishioka, and Mitsuko Kuroki. Also on view are Kazuko Maeda and China Kato’s cute and languid cat depictions, Rika Oshima’s dreamlike paintings, and Ham Myungsu’s densely intricate cityscapes. Each work offers a momentary departure from the city’s relentless rhythm—an invitation to slow down and attend to the subtle sensations of quietness.
