That artist: Faustine Badrichani

But a woman is a changeling
Always shifting shape
Just when you think you have it figured out
Something new begins to take

Faustine is primarily interested in a concept of the body as a map, as a record of lived experience that leaves all the signs and marks accumulated over time and tells the story. (which is a very logical approach for someone with geologist parents). Her work is feminist in a sense of focusing on the intimate and personal physical aspects of living in a female body, with all the rawness and beauty of that.
I loved this elegant combination of purely realistic body casts and the poetic representation of bodies on paper, the balance between physicality and ornamentation. I also enjoy seeing older works echoed in the newer series, even though the style and medium are different the attention to the form, color and texture is still noticeable.

You can see Faustine’s works at Art Central, presented by The Locker Room.
