Daily life is always repetitive, and reality is monotonous; this mechanical cycle may even erode dreams. Work, eating, sleeping—days that are all cut from the same cloth—are inevitably relived in the dead of night, leaving one’s thoughts in disarray. If a diary and a dream journal were much alike, are we destined to relive this gloom time and again? How would this be if every day were a day that could be reshaped?
Ivy HO Man Kei is interested in the recollection and documentation of the subconscious as experienced through mundane activities, connecting the dreaming illusion and reality. Usually with painting and space as a medium, featuring stars, living creatures and human-made objects, for instance bicycles, her work transforms a fragmented visual lexicon into dream-like spaces for audiences to dwell in.
