The Museum Summit 2023

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People’s Republic of China is staging the Museum Summit 2023 on 24 and 25 March, with a view to providing a platform for the exchange and interflow of expert experience and innovative ideas on the latest developments and transformations of museums across the world.

The Museum Summit in 2023 is now in its third edition. In 2017, the LCSD, in collaboration with the Palace Museum, hosted the first Museum Summit to mark the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR. The second Museum Summit in 2019 was held in partnership with the British Museum. Riding on the success of the previous two Museum Summits, we are enlisting the Gallerie degli Uffizi, in Italy, as our international partner for the forthcoming Summit 2023.

As practitioners in the museum and cultural sectors of the present day, we often find ourselves engaging in collaborative and interactive relationships between various parties, or situated at crossroads between multiple ideological assumptions or propositions. The decisions we make and the resulting implications shape and map our future directions and the way forward. “Between” is the key concept of relevance to our Museum Summit 2023. The term can be used to refer to the time, space or differences that separate, unite or associate two or multiple things, people, places or ideas. Pivoting on this overarching theme of “Between”, the Museum Summit 2023 will feature international speakers sharing their professional insights on aspects of the cultural and museum worlds of today. These include topics such as cultural exchanges between places; the reinvention of old and new cultural facilities; the connection between museums and their communities; and the online and offline integration made possible by new technologies. Apart from the keynote and main presentations, there will also be visiting programmes organised to complement the event.
