Videos in My Closet: Video Art Selections by Videotage at Eaton

In partnership with Eaton HK, “Videos in My Closet: Video Art Selections by Videotage” looks into the Hong Kong LGBTQ+ community through the lens that how artists perform their gender and sexual identities and cultures in front of it. While the LGBTQ+ community is now normalized by the commercial world and consumer market as Pink Economy, the identity politics in Hong Kong has gradually shifted from the focus on social hierarchy to nationalism/localism. The LGBTQ+ community is now apparently walking side by side with the current social movements, but the gender and sexual orientation issues seem to be overlooked in the spotlight for the tension between pro/against the movements. By presenting queer artist videos, “Videos in My Closet: Video Art Selections by Videotage” attempt to explore the alternative expressions of queer identity excluded in the storytelling-based media industry, and also extend the public imaginations toward queers beyond the depictions in mass media.
