Emma Webster: Vapors at Perrotin

There’s something eerie and unsettling about these landscapes, so I was not surprised to learn they were painted during the Los Angeles fires this year. The exaggerated stillness, distorted scale, and artificial placement of all the elements add a sense of dread and calamity. Juxtaposed to the energetic and very much animated Victoria Harbour the paintings look otherworldly.
