Li Qing: Mechanismic Sublime — Reconstructing Literati Ruins at INKstudio
I know I always say you need to see this or that artwork in person (because it is true and I am right; art should be experienced in real life), and this particular exhibition is no exception. What may look, from a distance, like a classical ink painting or a traditional landscape is an amalgamation of whimsical steampunk scenes, filled with the tiniest quirky details and motifs. There is a central character you can find in almost every painting; there are scenes with mystical creatures and beasts; mysterious faces merge into landscapes; mechanical details merge into plants… So many exciting and curious things happen in every painting that a photo of it is mostly useless.
The only thing this exhibition is missing is a comfy chair in front of the paintings.
Exhibition period: 15.05–28.06
Gallery address: Shop 03-104, 1/F, Barrack Block, Tai Kwun, Central
