Singing and Dancing with Brush and Ink: The Art of Wesley Tongson at Asia Society

Singing and Dancing with Brush and Ink: The Art of Wesley Tongson at Asia Society

I can’t even remember when I saw the works by Wesley for the first time, but I do remember a sense of marvel even with how little I knew about ink art back then (not that I’ve gained a lot of knowledge since then, just got a good understanding of how much there is to be learnt). His unique mark-making, his colors, his line — all screamed: I am not allowing the rules and traditions to limit or stop me. Learning about his life and struggles added a certain layer of poignancy, of course.

The exhibition allows viewers to see the development of Wesley’s style through the years, and appreciate his special take on the medium (by the way, he was extremely secretive with his techniques and kept saying that anyone who understands ink can repeat these effects).

Exhibition period: 15 July—11 October
Venue address: 9 Justice Drive, Admiralty
