Wu Shan at gdm
So much can be said about lacquer: it is an incredibly time consuming technique, it requires a lot of skill and knowledge, it’s a whole separate challenge to make this traditional material feel contemporary and so on. And of this is all absolutely true and fully applies to Wu Shan’s work.
But I would add one more: it so difficult to capture lacquer on photographs! The sheen, the gloss, the texture — everything is so much better in real life.
