From intimate close-ups of mothers and young children to expansive portraits of their living environments, artist Jeeyun Kim has spent over a decade exploring what it means to belong in a world of multiple identities.
In this site-specific exhibition, m < other >光影廊道, Jeeyun presents a deeply personal photographic exploration of identity, belonging, and the experiences of mixed-race families. Inspired by her own multicultural background and family, Jeeyun began the project in 2010, examining how race, culture, and personal experiences shape individual identities. Early photographs focused closely on mothers and young children, highlighting physical similarities and differences, while later works expanded to include the subjects’ living environments, revealing cultural influences through personal spaces and objects. Accompanied by interviews, the portraits show questions such as "Where are you from?" or "Who are you?" rarely have simple answers. The recent inclusion of adoptive families expands this conversation further, illuminating the deep, relational ways we connect with one another.
