Chen Hui-Chiao: Under One Sky at gdm

Chen Hui-Chiao: Under One Sky at gdm

The feeling of unease and danger is intense and immediate — the space full of beds looks like a war hospital — and when you notice all the needles puncturing the bed’s surfaces, turning them into unusable, unwelcoming torture objects, the feeling only intensifies.
Needles and threads are usually associated with craft and domesticity, creation and repair, but also with a risk of puncture and pain. The same duality continues with all other materials used by the artist: feathers, cotton, balls — everything is double-edged even if it’s under one sky.
